MAKE SURE THAT THE WIRE WITH THE RED PAINT ON IT IS HOOKED TO YOUR POSITIVE LEAD, AS PUMP WILL RUN BACKWARD BUT DOES NOT AERIATE WHEN HOOKED UP INCORRECT. THE TWO PRONGED PLUG IS ONLY PARTIALLY ENGADED FOR DEMO PURPOSES IT SHOULD BE FULLY ENGAGED.

I believe this small tank will maintain very well 30 3" to
3 1/2" shad, may even hold more but have not been able to personally
test. I would appreciate your feed back. I do recommend that you
use polyfill in Filter Basket for both Minnows and Shad.

All tanks are complete with
Keep Alive Oxygen Enhancer system.

Keep Alive Oxygen Enhancer system
can increase the bait capacity of the tank by
60 %, and reduces scale loss
which means better bait.

Thank You!

You have just looked at / purchased one of the finest UV stable polyethylene
live bait tanks on the market.

Warning

Your tank will move and could hurt someone or
cause damage to your boat. We
strongly advise that you put some sort of mat on the
bottom (we use rug grabber, or
rug grabber) glued on the bottom of the tank.

As the saying goes, "There are many ways to skin a cat." The same
is true with keeping bait alive. Below we have listed some of the tried
ways we have found to work well over the years:

First Off

The pump is pre-wired. The positive lead is marked with red paint.
In the event you need to replace your pump, the brown wire from the new
pump should be connected to the positive lead (+) of
your battery or other 12Volt DC power source. The
black wire to the negative (-) lead. We recommend a 5 amp inline fuse
be installed as close to the power source as possible in the positive (+) lead.

Filter

Your tank is equipped with a scale basket inserted in a filter basket.
The scale basket being the one with the screen material walls. The purpose
of the scale basket is to initially trap bait scales and other large objects
prior to the filter. The scale basket may need to be removed and washed out
more than once during a days fishing. One indicator being: If your water
level begins to rise in the bait compartment, it's a good bet your scale
basket needs to be pulled and washed out. And the filter material examined.

The actual filter material installs in the filter box below the scale
basket. For this purpose we use new poly fill on every recharge of the
tank (you can purchase poly fiber at local discount stores and sewing
stores. It is used as the fill for quilting.)

During a single fishing trip, it may be necessary to replace this poly
fill. Especially if you get your bait out of shallow water. Any time you
wash out your scale basket, examine the filter material. If it shows a
brownish darkening color, change it out.

Please, if you are on the water when you change this filter material,
store it on board for disposal later in a trash receptacle….Do not toss it
in the lake. A plastic zip lock bag makes a great container to store old poly fill.

Porous foam packing material can also be used as filter material in lieu
of poly fill.

Water Treatment

We charge our tank using tap water (city water) because especially during
the summer months the surface water on the lake often reaches 85 degrees and,
you would need to cool it prior to use. I like my water in the low 70's
and tap water allows me to initially get close to this temperature.

However, if you use tap water, you must use something to remove the
chlorine and chloramine. We recommend a product such as "Start Right" made
by Jungle Laboratories Corporation to do this. Use one teaspoon of "Start Right"
for every ten gallons of water. Hint: I use one of those plastic 35mm camera
film bottles as a measurement tool. This works well for tanks up to 40 gallons.
A bit too much is better than too little.

Salt is very important for shad. I use 26oz. of eiter Morton's Stock Salt or Non Iodines salt that can be bought in 26 oz. containers at Walmart (approx .33 cents).
a 40 gallon capacity tank. The main thing you want, is clean flakey,
non-iodinized salt. Rock salt and pellet salt is difficult to dissolve.
Note: If the nose of your bait gets red, this is a sign of stress. It's
a good indicator you may not be using enough salt.

One other thing you need to keep handy is a solution of foam kill. When
you mix salt, fish oil, and agitated water, you can have a foam develop on
top of your tank. A little squirt of foam kill should take care of this. Foam
Kill is commercially available at good bait shops, or it can be made by putting
a packet of powdered non-dairy coffee creamer in a small 4oz. plastic bottle.
Fill with water and shake it up to dissolve the creamer.

In the summer months, keeping a few 20oz. plastic pop bottle filled with
water and frozen can be used to cool the water if needed. This double wall
water insulated bait tank will need a minimum amount of additional cooling
if your initial charge of water is cool to begin with and the ambient
temperature is not extremely hot.

Water Level

Water level in the tank must be at least to the bottom of the scale
basket screen.

Air Adjustment

We have set the air intake valve, but you may need to make additional
adjustments with the salt added and dissolved good, and the pump running,
put your hand close to the "Bubble Port" and watch the bubbles
float up your arm. Turn the valve and you will notice a change.
The smaller the bubbles the better.

Hint: Shad for Bait

When using a cast net, do not dump fresh caught shad from the net directly
into your bait tank. Dump the content of your cast net into a holding bucket
full of lake water first. Best of all, this
holding bucket gives you a chance to use
your scoop net to pick the larger, better
looking baits and >discard the weaker
looking shad back into the lake, rather
than wasting tank space on poor quality
baits.

Draining Tank

Included in the tank is a short piece of ½" CPVC. Find an old discarded
garden hose, cut it to where it is long enough to reach from the bottom of your
bait tank out over the side of your boat and insert this piece of CPVC into one end.
When looking into the bait chamber portion of the tank, you will notice two
caps near the bottom on the filter side of the tank. The larger one nearest
the bottom is the water input port. The smaller one a bit higher up the wall
is the water output port, or "Bubble Port" from which the filtered water is
cycled back into the bait compartment. It is into the "Bubble Port" you
will want to insert this ½" piece of CPVC when you are ready to drain your
tank. Remove filter and scale basket. With the other end of the garden hose laid over side of the boat,
the pump in the bait tank will empty the tank water.

Hint: When I decide it's about time to go home, I put fresh bait down on
all of my rods. Then I take my bait scoop and liberally chum the water with
the remaining baits in the tank. You might save a few, because sometime
this chumming may excite the bite and you'll want to stay on the water a
little while longer.

Tank Maintenance

A solution of baking soda and water run through the pump will help remove
offensive odors. Do this occasionally.

After about 20 uses of the tank, I run a strong bleach water solution
through my pump and slosh it on the walls of the tank using a course hand brush.
After bleaching the tank and rinsing well, the next time I recharge the tank,
I use a double amount of "Start Right."

Hope this helps. Good luck, and Good fishing!!

This is a special "Made to Order Sunshine Bait Tank"

The over all size is 44 long 33 wide 31 inches tall, with 26"inches of water in the bait well.

The bait well has a capacity of 100 gallons, the overall capacity is 134
gallons. I put two pumps with infusers and put larger PVC fitting to handle
the water exchange. I ran the pumps over a hour and saw no loss of water
in the filter system. I designed the filter and scale basket to operate
with less than half the capacity if desired.
