Our filtration process is simple and very effective. The key to the process is that the water is drawn from the bottom of the bait tank up and through the scale basket. The scale basket the smaller basket with fiberglass screen mesh on the side walls and bottom that captures all the scales and debris that are in the main tank. The first stage filtered water then filters through a layer of Poly-Fil material where all the fine items are captured for later removal. The second stage is where the water then passes over the Poly-Fil material within the larger (filter) basket.
The scale basket can easily be removed and washed out in the lake during the fishing trip. If during the washing out process, the Poly-Fil material appears to be brown the Poly-Fil material should then be removed and replaced with a new layer of the Poly-Fil.
The Poly-Fil material should be changed before each trip. The Poly-Fil material is readily available at stores like Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby, or sewing centers. This material is used in the making of quilts and is available in many different size containers. When the Poly-Fil is removed please do not throw it into the lake but dispose of it properly. It will not decompose in lake water. Please put it in a plastic bag and then place it in a trash container when finished fishing.
The minnow bucket tank does not contain a wire mesh basked but does contain a double filter basket where the Poly-Fil material can be used between the two baskets. When the minnow bucket tank is initially filled using lake water that is clean it may not be necessary to use the Poly-Fil material.
